Adjustments: Cutting Height Lever (single lever for all wheels), Handle Height (adjustable via knobs).

Deck Configurations: Install rear bag for collection, mulching plug for recycling clippings, or side discharge chute for expelling clippings.

Maintenance Schedule

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and safety.

  1. Before each use: Check oil level, inspect blade for damage, clear deck of debris.
  2. Every 25 hours: Change engine oil (or annually).
  3. Every season: Replace air filter, spark plug. Check tire pressure.
  4. As needed: Sharpen or replace blade. Clean underside of deck.
  5. Storage: Perform end-of-season maintenance (see Storage section).

Tip: Always disconnect spark plug wire before performing any maintenance.

Engine Care

Briggs & Stratton engine maintenance procedures.

  1. Oil Change: Run engine briefly to warm oil. Drain via dipstick tube or drain plug into container. Refill with SAE 30 detergent oil (20 oz).
  2. Air Filter: Remove cover, clean foam pre-cleaner (if equipped), replace paper filter annually or when dirty.
  3. Spark Plug: Remove and inspect. Gap to 0.030 inches. Replace annually (Champion RJ19LM or equivalent).
  4. Fuel System: Use fresh gasoline. Add fuel stabilizer for storage. Never store with fuel in tank for more than 30 days.

WARNING! Engine is hot after operation. Allow to cool before servicing.

Blade Care & Sharpening

A sharp, balanced blade ensures a clean cut and reduces engine strain.

  1. Disconnect spark plug wire.
  2. Tip mower on its side (carburetor side up).
  3. Block blade with wood to prevent turning, remove blade bolt (clockwise to loosen – left-hand thread).
  4. Sharpen blade with file or grinder, maintaining original cutting angle. Remove equal metal from both ends.
  5. Check balance by hanging blade on a nail; it should remain level. File heavy end if unbalanced.
  6. Reinstall blade with bolt (tighten securely – left-hand thread).

CAUTION! Wear heavy gloves. Replace blade if cracked, bent, or excessively worn.

Storage Instructions

Proper storage prevents fuel system issues and corrosion.

  1. Run engine to warm oil, then change oil.
  2. Add fuel stabilizer to gas tank, run engine for 5 minutes to circulate.
  3. Either: (a) Run engine until it stops to empty carburetor, OR (b) Turn fuel valve OFF and run engine until it stops.
  4. Remove spark plug, add 1 tablespoon of oil into cylinder, pull starter slowly to distribute, reinstall plug.
  5. Clean entire mower, especially underside of deck.
  6. Store in a cool, dry place, preferably covered.

CAUTION! Never store mower with fuel in an enclosed area due to fire risk.
